Spotlight: "I decided to devote my life to telling the story because I felt that having survived I owe something to the dead... and anyone who does not remember betrays them again." Elie Weisel, who turns 80 today, has made it his life's mission to tell and retell the story of the Holocaust and to speak out against those who continue to commit crimes against humanity today. In 1986, he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. Also on this date — in 1946 — the Nuremberg Trials ended. Twenty-two leaders of Nazi Germany were convicted of crimes perpetrated during World War II. Eleven were sentenced to death and the rest of the guilty were given lengthy terms in Spandau Prison.
